Best and better

When the first Twisted Metal came out, people thought
it would be impossible to top it in the gameplay department.
It won many awards, including EGM's game of the year.
If you were one who thought it just can't be improved, you
were very wrong. It touched up on everything that made
the original a success. Looks like SingleTrac has another
winner in Twisted Metal 2.

How does it play?

In Twisted Metal 2, the gameplay has no bounds. The
original was fun, but was lacking in strategy.
This has been vastly improved. One of the new special
weapons, the remote bomb, can be carefully placed where
the opponent is heading. Then you can wait in the distance
and set it off when the opponent reaches it. If done
right you can get off an extra hit with a missile. Other
new additions include special moves, ala fighting games.
The computer AI is much tougher. For example, when
fighting an opponent the computer will team-up on you.
There are even hiding spots you can rest at while the
computer beats itself. The 2-player mode now has the
option of whether you want to view it top half 1st player,
bottom half 2nd player or left half 1st player, right half
2nd player. You can even go through the game cooperatively
meaning it's you and a friend versus the computer.

Destroy the Statue of Liberty!

Another addition to Twisted Metal 2 is the interactive
backgrounds. For example, in New York you can shoot at
the Statue of Liberty and cause it to explode. Ever feel
like bombing the Eiffel tower? No problem! In the
Antarctica level chunks of the ice fall down making you
have to watch for signs of shaking. These really add to
the fun that is TM2.

Sounds correct!

One of the best things about the levels is that they
have music that is inspired by the battleground. Paris
really capitalizes on that with re-mixes of classic Paris
songs. The sounds of explosions are done real well. If
you don't like these types of games but are a big history
buff, you'll definitely find historical value with the game.

Pros: Many secrets and extras to find.
     Much improved graphics.
2-Player Vs. and cooperative modes add a great deal of replay.
     Endings like animated comic books.

Cons: There tends to be some graphic breakup.
     FMV skipping
